Well folks, it's time for another gathering
of cachers to do what they do best, "Exercising their jaw muscles"
through the fine art of eating and talking. ...and
you thought the main objective of geocaching was to find
geocaches... This gathering of cachers will
manifest at Pavilion #2 in Jackson Park. It will be an
excellent opportunity to meet new cachers, and renew
friendships with old, uh, wait, that's a bad word... substitute,
"long-time known" ones.
It will be held on Saturday, October 13,
from 3PM till 11PM.
There is plenty of parking and it is handicap
accessible. There are plenty of nearby
restrooms.
A $1.00 donation to offset the cost of
renting the pavilion will be graciously
accepted.
To make sure there is plenty to eat, we
request that everyone attending please bring a dish to share and
your own favorite non-alcoholic beverage. We will provide the paper
goods and ice. When you post your "will attend" note, please
include what dish you will be bringing to share. As people list
their dishes, I will update the list here on the cache page so we
don't have too many duplications. Since this is one of the smaller
pavilians, if you have a folding lawn chair, it might be helpful to
bring it.
Update:
We have decided to continue a
"tradition" of sorts. In past years, two "Western North Carolina
Geocacher Signature Caches" (
GC67D7 and
GCD128) were raffled off at cache events which were held to
bring new and "seasoned" geocachers together. These old caches have
quite a history, with the original cache container having been used
for both caches. Although it is still in our possession, it is
pretty well battle scared, and no longer servicable. Yesterday, we
purchased a new ammo can (6"W x 18"L x 9¾"D) for the "Western North
Caroliona Signature Cache #3! Now, for a small change in our
original plan: We had requested that everyone please bring a
"mystery gift" to be given away at a free "door prize" drawing
later in the evening. Instead, we now ask that you bring something
to put into the new signature cache. (No EJMG please!
) This NEW signature cache will be awarded to one lucky (?)
attendee as a door prize, who will be charged with the
responsibility of hiding it. The original signature cache
(
GC67D7) was hidden on "Lookout Mountain," in Montreat, near
Black Mountain. We would like to see whomever wins the cache hide
it in the same general area.
Schedule of
events:
- 3pm to 5pm - Flipper lippin'
& cache findin' in the park.
- 5pm to 6pm - Tie on the feed
bag.
- 6pm to 7pm - Freebies and door
prizes.
- 7pm to ???? - Night
caching.
We are planning on putting out some new
caches in honor of this event. One may be a new night cache, so be
sure to bring a flashlight too!
