Lost in the Smokies (Again!) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

slackpacker: Hard to believe this cache has been out there almost ten years! I don't cache much anymore so figured I would pick up this one while traveling down to Horse Cove. The container was within a few feet of where I hid it all those years ago, and the original logbook was there with many familiar signatures. This is such a cool spot - thanks to all that visited over the years! Happy 'Caching!

Geocache Description:

A short walk, a cool cliff, some history, and a cache.

There used to be a popular cache in this area, "Lost in the Smokies" by Carolina MOOn. Apparently the name originated when, while lost looking for another cache, this neat spot was discovered. Unfortunately, the cache disappeared a couple of times and was archived.

The cache site is a quick walk from the parking coords, below, on Horse Cove Rd (an extension of east Main St. in Highlands). (And even if you found the original cache, this new one is fair game!)

The stone wall is the remains of a quarry that probably dates to the 1930's, and was most-likely the source of the crushed rock that first paved Horse Cove Road. It is now a popular spot for rappelling training.

Please use caution while near the top of the cliff - supervise children - and use extreme caution if wet or dark!

You are looking for a medium-sized lock-in-lock container. Enjoy!
