Geocache Description:

Nice quiet spot in Wollombi in the Hunter Valley. Not so quiet on most weekends when it becomes a major watering hole for tourist coaches and motorbikes. The cache location is not near this busy part of the village but whilst there have a wander through the village which has two churches, one of them is the oldest Catholic church in mainland Australia, originally built in 1840 and destroyed by floods in approx. 1890. It was rebuilt in its current position away from the brook in 1893.
The other Anglican church was built in 1847 and still stands in its original location and condition, even though 1.2m of water went through it in 1949.
Wollombi is well worth a stop off on your way to the vineyards.
