This cache resurrects the original Alamo-SC cache placed by Brules in 2004 and archived in early 2007 due to muggles. We’re grateful to Brules and to the Saluda County Historical Society for permission to re-place this cache. Brule's original cache description said: "The Alamo was jointly commanded by William B. Travis and Jim Bowie when General Santa Anna launched the battle to retake this key location and impress upon the Texans the futility of further resistance to Mexican rule. Travis was from Saluda County, South Carolina, which was also the home of another Alamo defender, James Butler Bonham." We also learned that Bonham’s South Carolina home (Flat Grove, or Winehall) is believed to be the only known birthplace of an Alamo defender still in existence. It is being restored by the Saluda County Historical Society http://saludacountyhistoricalsociety.org/alamo-bonham-house.html , with contributions from people all over the United States. The parking coordinates are N33 54.912 W081 48.816. They will take you to a monument placed by the Saluda County Historical Society. The cache is a small cammo’d tube hanging at the edge of the woodline. We hope you enjoy the monument and that it inspires you to learn more about this unique aspect of South Carolina history. Congratulations to salutations on the FTF!!!
