Limited parking by the
side of the road at N 51° 21.249, E 01° 05.678 (TR 155 662).
The cache is only a short walk from here. For those wanting a
longer walk, alternative parking is at N 51° 21.239, E 01° 06.770
(TR 168 662). |
! |
The footpath from the
first parking point listed above descends a slope then runs,
unfenced, alongside a main dual carriageway for a short
distance. Please ensure children and animals are properly
supervised. |

The paths to the cache
are surfaced, so this should be an 'all seasons'
cache. |
On a clear day, with the sun shining on them, the wind turbines
which form part of the Kentish Flats wind farm are clearly visible
from the road bridge near the cache. The electricity
substation next to the bridge receives the power generated by the
turbines via an underground cable and pipes it in to the National
Grid.
At the time of construction the Kentish Flats offshore wind farm
was the largest in the UK with thirty 3 MW turbines covering an
area of 10 square kilometres. Electricity started to be sent
to the National Grid on 10th September 2005. The
turbines are situated over 5 miles out to sea in water just 5
metres deep. The hub of each turbine is 70 metres above mean
sea level, and the rotors are 90 metres in diameter.
The cache shouldn't be too difficult to find (mind the thorns),
but please ensure it is hidden from view when
replacing. |
