Welcome to the Second Annual MAGC Military History Event! Anyone
who has an interest in military history and geocaching (or food!)
are welcome to attend!! The Military Association of Geocachers
(MAGC) "Beltway Bandits" Chapter is sponsoring this event, but you
don’t need to be a member of MAGC to attend!
If you are not familiar with the Military Association of
Geocachers (MAGC), come on out this Veteran's Day weekend and meet
us at this event! MAGC is a geocaching group of made up of Military
members (Active/Reserve/Guard), their families, Retirees, Honorably
Discharged Vets and all those who desire to support the troops.
There is no charge to attend this event and no dues if you want to
join! Come on out and enjoy!
The theme of this event is to share just a portion the rich
military history of the United States. The MAGC (to date) has
identified 49 caches in the Central MD/Northern VA/Southern PA
region with a military history theme or are located at a site with
militarily historical significance. Some of these may take you to
battlefields you have studied since grammar school; others will
commemorate smaller, lesser-known events. All contribute to the
broad tapestry of the American military experience.
For those who wish to participate, there is a contest associated
with this event! BUT, keep in mind, you DO NOT have to participate
in the contest to attend the event! In keeping with the spirit of
the event, PRIZES will be awarded to the individual/team that has
found the most number of these military history-themed caches!
Now, don’t panic! You do NOT have to find every one of the 49
caches. (However, there is special recognition for those who
do!) Players who find just one of these military-themed caches on
the official list qualifies for an honorary “Rank”.
In order claim the appropriate “Rank”, , MAGC requires each
player to create a shared
bookmark list of the caches claimed as eligible finds.
Please make your MAGC 07 Event bookmark lists "public" and "shared"
so that everyone can see how other participants are doing. Be sure
to include a bookmark to this cache event page on your list; this
ensures everyone's lists can be accessed from right here. The
bookmark list you post will be the only repeat, only method used to
determine individual "rankings".
Now, Before anything else, review the caches listed in the
Official MAGC 07 Event Bookmark List.
For purposes of this event, only caches on this list count.
NOTE: "Hey, I've already found a bunch of these caches
already, do they count? Yes!! Caches you found PRIOR to
the publication of this event cache and ARE ON the Official MAGC 07
Event Bookmark List WILL COUNT towards your final total
determining your “Rank”!!
| If You Found |
Your Honorary "Rank" is |
| All 49 MAGC 07 Event Caches |
GENERAL |
| 35 - 45 |
Chief Master Sergeant |
| 25 - 34 |
Colonel |
| 10 - 24 |
Major |
| 5 - 9 |
Captain |
| 1-4 |
Lieutenant |
(NOTE: Yeah, I know. Some of you may take a look at this and say
“Hey, don’t officers outrank enlisted members?” Trust me, given the
importance of the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Corps in all US
Armed Services, the list above is accurate. I use Air Force rank
designators in this list because I’m retired USAF. Don't like it?
Tough.)
We will the review the list verifying each cache meets the MAGC
07 Event criteria. For purposes of this Event, each player may
qualify for only one “Rank”. (So, if you send us an e-mail saying
you qualifiy for "Major", and subsequently find you actually might
qualify for “Colonel”, save it for next year!)
Example: Before the publication of this event, you
had found and logged 8 caches that were on this year’s official
list. Between now and 5 November, you found 7 more on the list,
giving you a grand total of 15 MAGC 07 finds. By looking at the
“Rank” chart above, you see this may qualify you for Major.
Here’s what you do next:
1. After updating your personal MAGC 07 Event bookmark list, you
send us an e-mail saying, “I made Major! I have found between 10
and 24 MAGC 07 Event caches!” Send this e-mail to me (DragonsEar)
NLT 2200 5 November 07. (OK, “NLT” means “No Later Than” and 2200
is 10:00 PM)
2. Your “Rank” certificate will be awarded at the event! You
must be present and the Event to claim your prizes! All prizes will
be awarded at the event!

Standing Rules of Engagement (September 2007):
1. Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for
logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed
on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and
logged.
2. If you come across a cache that would be a good candidate for
future events, please post it on the appropriate MAGC Forum
3. If you have any questions, comments, complaints or concerns,
please email the cache owner. All decisions by the cache owner are
final and binding.
PRIZES: You better believe we got SWAG! Good stuff, too!
