Welcome to Van's Cache!
Van is a resident of the Cayuga Nature Center.
A little over a year ago, Hiking Cockroachess and I visited the Cayuga Nature Center to remove an old cache, and replace it with a series of 6 new caches. At the same time I brought with me this little cache-ready container I had won at an event. Van made such an impression on us while we were visiting, that we felt we just had to hide this tribute to him! He loves to whistle, and he REALLY loves to imitate YOU whistling! I don't know what we said to him, but it must have been the right thing, because we were making beautiful music together!
So why did it take a year to publish the cache? : )
We hid this while hiding the others. At this most unopportune time, I apparently stepped on a hornets nest. They buzzed-we ran! We did not take waypoints!
A year later, while doing cache maintenance, Hiking Cockroachess miraculously found Van's Cache! (Sans hornets!) It remained hidden beautifully, and the contents were dry and undisturbed. She added some items, took the waypoints, and now Van's Cache is available to you!
The Cayuga Nature Center trails are open from dawn until dusk. There is a general admission during the summer months. Donations are appreciated, as they help fund other projects through the Nature Center.
The Cayuga Nature Center is located at 1420 Taughannock, Rt. 89 in Ithaca, NY. There is plenty of parking in front of the Main Lodge. Make sure to take time to visit the indoor exhibits and stop at the gift shop. You will find informational brochures, as well as a trail map for the Center. Please tell Van I said Hello!
