Begin your search at the NPS parking lot at the east end of
Hancock, Md. (or from the WMRT of course) Take the wide path down
to the canal and towpath and head east. A huge old brick house and
the unique Tonoloway Creek Aqueduct are also accessible from this
parking lot and are worth a visit.
Proceed to the coords listed above. You will find on this old
structure several stones carved with names and dates, done by
people who lived and worked here long ago. Info gathered from these
stones will lead to the final cache, located on the WMRT, at these
coordinates:
39* 41.ABB, 78 08.ACD
Stone 1-find between front door and window, near ground, large
dark stone, contains letters and a date.
Stone 2-find under bottom left corner of front window. Long,
narrow, dark stone. Contains a last name.
Now that we have that out of the way, here is what you need:
A)-sum of first and third numbers in date on stone 1.
B)-last number in date on stone 1, doubled.
C)-number of letters in last name on stone 2.
D)-how many "letters" are found on stone 1.
Plug in your new coords, head back to the WMRT and follow your
gpsr. Cache is a small camo'ed plastic tube, four inches long. It
is in a fallen relic, very near to the trail. Find help in the hint
below.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to the C&O!
