Geocache Description:

This is a virtual cache, there is no container at the above coordinates.

Location: About 20 km north of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. The terrain is an easy stroll.

Directions:

This virtual cache (Accuracy 10 m Elevation 154 m) is the ruins of the old Seacliff mental hospital, it burnt down. At the cache coordinates you will find a tree and a plaque to the people that died in the fire. Most of the out buildings survived the fire and are now privately owned (and enclosed by a high barbed wire fence :(; you can see them by driving up the road a bit and peering through the fence ;)). The remainder of the grounds have been set aside for public use as the Truby King Reserve. There are many overgrown tracks and ruins in the 'enchanted' forest planted for the hospital. If the main gate is locked for winter, you may still park by the gate on the road about 200 m south of the cache coordinates (at S 45°40.654' E 170°37.368' Elevation 148 m).
