The cache is at a water tower which is a Chestnut Hill landmark.
The Chestnut Hill Water Company was a private enterprise incorporated in 1856 to supply water to the Chestnut Hill community with Charles Heebner as president. A reservoir supplied by a well and springs was constructed. In 1859 a 125 foot stone tower with a wooden tank on top was built with a capacity of 40,000 gallons. An engine house and boiler house providing steam power were also constructed. Over the years, other reservoirs supplied the tower with water when the original spring became polluted. In 1910 the Chestnut Hill Water Works was dismantled and the buildings and grounds turned into a playground for children. In 1917 a storm damaged the water tower and it remained in ruins until it was restored in 1949. Read the plaque near the restored tower, and notice the nearby WWII memorial dedicated to local families. The recreation center playing fields are in the reservoir site next to the old engine house and pumping station. The area has been cleaned up and the hide has changed several times. The cache has been replaced again with the same coordinates. It is still vulnerable. Its longevity will depend on how geocachers will use stealth. The cache is now a small and has room for some swag. BYOP and rehide well.
