Geocache Description:

To the Rebirth of Lithuania or Atgimstanciai Lietuvai claim stone carved words on a small monument on the outskirts of Vilnius near the A2 Hwy.

The date reads 23 August 1989, this is the time when some 2 million people in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia joined hands to form a 600km long human chain streatching throughout all three countries. They were to protest against 50th Anniversary of the Soviet Union and Germany secretly signed protocol of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact that divided spheres of interest in Eastern Europe which led to the occupation of these three states.

I asked some locals in Galine village about who and when built the monument with a cross up on the top, but very little did they know. Geocachers are welcomed to post more of the background.

The cache is a typical film canister with some coins for swag, a logbook and some pencils. A vintage IC chip manufactured in the USSR five years before the Baltic Way happened has been thrown in there too.

Enjoy!
