The cache is hidden in some of Gresham's newest parkland - at an elevation of nearly 1000 feet (the highest public point in the city).
In Summer 2006, the 40 acres on the top and southeast side of this butte were slated to become a new housing tract (with the blessing of the City Planning Department). Over 2000 "significant" trees were going to be clear-cut, and the terrain reshaped to accommodate 82 homes on the steep slopes. Residents from the two adjoining neighborhoods banded together to fight the plan and, after countless hours of hearings, succeeded in stopping it! In June 2007, the City of Gresham and Metro purchased this parcel as a permanent open space. It links into other existing parkland to form over 500 acres of wooded open space on and around Gresham Butte. Enjoy!
Note: Contrary to what the Google maps may indicate, you *cannot* drive to the cache. It is approximately a 0.25 mile uphill walk.
