Geocache Description:

The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT), a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest region and its gateway communities.

The AGT utilizes the growing interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Click on the Allegheny GeoTrail Logo below to visit the AGT website at www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at www.geocaching.com .

(From downtown Bradford, head west on West Corydon Street (until it ends), about 5 miles at the Bradford City Water Plant. Do NOT enter the water plant, but rather park in the small parking area on the right, just outside the gates. This is public parking. “In 1950, the city applied for and was granted water allocations to withdraw water from the North Branch of Sugar Run and the West Branch of Tunugnwant Creek. Following receipt of these allocations, persons involved with the operation of the water system became concerned that the proposed points of withdrawal might become contaminated from the upstream operation of portions of the Bradford Oil Fields. In 1955 the two points of water withdrawal were abandoned and a decision was made to construct a new reservoir on the West Branch of the Tunungwant Creek above Kissem Run. This is the site of Reservoir Number 5, now known as Heffner Reservoir. When it came time to acquire land and construct the Heffner Reservoir, the City of Bradford recognized that it did not have sufficient financial resources to construct a facility of the magnitude being proposed. Therefore, in 1955 the Bradford City Water Authority was created and charged, as its initial project, with the acquistion of the land, planning and construction of the proposed new reservoir.” Information acquired from www.bradfordwater.com - “History” Cache was hidden in typical Curly Top style – using lots of geo”clues”! Terrain is two due to having to cross a small ditch to get to the cache area; otherwise, the terrain is relatively easy. Depending on the season, you should have a pretty view of the reservoir from the cache. Please note, GPS would not settle, so accuracy was in the 45 ft. range.)
