We have been collecting for this cache for some time and there is a wonderful collection of key rings. Key ring swaps only. Please do not leave anything else except for travel bugs and Geocoins, which are always welcome.
The co-ordinates are for the first clue, you are looking for a large clip plastic box in a camouflage bag.
There is a special FTF key ring for the first to find in the bag with the logbook.
At the time of the Domesday Survey the manor of Malshanger at Oakley, or Church Oakley, was in the possession of Walter, son of Other; he was Governor of Windsor Castle and ancestor of the baronial house of Windsor. The last mention of the Windsor overlordship occurs in 1501-2, and in 1504 the land was sold to William of Warham. William was the most illustrious member of the Warham family, who had had connections with the property since the fifteenth century. He filled high offices of state in the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII, including Bishop of London, Chancellor of England and Archbishop of Canterbury. He it was who crowned Henry VIII and his first wife, Catharine of Aragon, in Westminster Abbey, and was later an opponent of their divorce. He was also a close friend of Erasmus. In succeeding centuries the manor changed ownership several times, the more notable lords of the manor being the Kingsmill and Brickenden families.
In 1983, Sir Michael Colman the current owner generously gave half his house to be a small conference centre for the use of Holy Trinity Brompton
Church (HTB) in London.
Malshanger has always been a favourite of mine I have a lovely picture painted by a local Artist living in the cottages. This is not a cache and dash please enjoy the walk there is a wonderful sense of peace and tranquillity. As you walk up the drive you can just glimpse the house through the trees, walk past the cottage and you find the social club where a number of local clubs meet continue on past the bowling green.
The footpath goes left across the field down to the farm, during autumn and winter this can be muddy as the field is ploughed up, it then turns right to come back up to the woods. There is no public right of way straight ahead on the road.
After the cache you can continue walking until you get to the edge of the woods turn right in front of the wooden stile and follow the path round this will bring you back to the lodge. The complete round trip is probably about 2 miles.
We have chosen this spot as its quiet and hopefully the cache will not be muggled please hide it well.
