Oktoberfest ist Spaß! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

guinea gal: Someone alerted me that this was on private property. It wasn't (one of the ways to get to the cache is No Trespassing) but there is construction on the other side of the woods here that is getting awfully close! So after a good run, it is time to say auf wiedersehen!

Geocache Description:

Glückliches Oktoberfest!

How well do you know your Oktoberfest? It is the “worlds largest fair”! Most Americans probably think of one thing: beer. Most folks also believe it logically takes place in October. Yes, and no.

The original Oktoberfest was a celebration of marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. This took place on October 12, 1810. Afterwards, the elders in Munich decided it needed to be an official yearly event. Over the years, the festival increased from horse races with small booths to large beer tents-and I mean LARGE! (The largest tent can hold 10,000 people at one time!) The dates of the festival were pushed back to late September, as the weather during that time encouraged visitors to drink! While all beers and wines are available during Oktoberfest, each brewery participating produces an “Oktoberfest-Only” brew, which can only be served during the festival. During the 1960s, the horse races stopped, and were replaced by the festival rides you see today. It also became more of a world-wide fair, and not only held in Bavaria.

As the festival got bigger, restrictions had to be placed to help keep it family friendly. During the daytime, only softer music is played, and cannot exceed a certain decibel. Public use toiletten had to be increased due to the length in lines, and unbelievably, the use of cell phones (the only place quiet enough to use one!)

Oktoberfest is taking place right now, until October 7th! So hop on a place and jet on over to Bavaria for a good time! Or visit any of the Oktoberfest that local townships, communities and fire halls are sure to be having. (Kitchener, Ont is also known for their large festival.) Or come on by and visit this cache!

You are looking for an ammo can. It is currently filled with a few trinkets, some Oktoberfest tattoos (please don’t take all of them!), a few German flags, a travel bug, a logbook, and a small First To Find prize. There are no posted hours, but I would not advise night visits. Please take care in rehiding the cache…it fits well so there should be no problem. Coordinates were very sketchy, I took several readings with 2 GPSr’s, but if anyone can improve on these, help is welcome. These coordinates will definitely get you to the right place, and the hiding spot is not very difficult.

And if anyone can tell me where that menthol smell is coming from, I would greatly appreciate it!

Please no night caching!!!

Have fun, and Glückliches Oktoberfest!

Congratuliere to the Flashes for Zuerst Finden!
Congratuliere Arrowhawk for a close second! Of course I remember you!
