Another day after work with nothing to do but get out and enjoy another location on the Malheur National Forest.
This is a real easy location to get to from John Day or Burns.
Hang a South East off of Highway 395 onto the Starr Ridge Road - USFS Rd. # 196. Travel about 8.15 miles to the tower compound.
If the gate is shut please leave it that way.
While here, visit with Sandra and sign here logbook as well. If she is on duty that is.
If you go up the tower, Be very careful of the 70 steps to the top. Very steep. Duck your head when first entering the stairwell also.
This area is due for some thinning soon to open up the view for the lookout.
