Geocache Description:

A two stage multicache that can be easy or very hard depending on what route you choose to follow to get to the final cache.

This is a two stage multi cache. Stage One is a magnetic micro that is located on the Rails to Trails that runs along US Rt 50 West. You can access the Rail Trail from Flinderation Road off US Rt 50 West. Flinderation Road is located between Salem and Lake Floyd on US Rt 50. Once you turn on Flinderation Road, you'll turn right and drive about 500 yards and you will come to a gate on your right that keeps your car off the Rails to Trails. You can park here. You are now within 250 feet of stage one. Walk east on the rails to trails (towards Clarksburg ) within a few minutes you should see an old railroad bridge and just past the bridge you should see the old haunted train tunnel Brandy Gap #2.

When you locate Stage One be sure to look down and take notice of the Benchmark. It's a nice bonus prize bonus for this hide. You can log benchmarks on your Geocache Profile too. I've written this bonus Benchmark number inside Stage One so be sure to note it.

To finish this one and get to Stage Two you now have three choices. Your within 400 feet of the final cache, a big 6x6 Lock-n-Lock.

1. You can keep walking on the trail and through the tunnel to see if you can find an easy way up the hill to the cache on the backside of the tunnel hill. (Be warned that this is a flat walk but you will be going through a 1000+ foot tunnel that is pitch dark, dripping wet, and has a slippery muddy floor. Oh, and its haunted by a ghost train). Terrain Rating is 3 because of the mud and spooky factor.

or

2. You can just go up the hill straight towards the final cache. Again a word of warning, The tunnel is here for a reason, the hill it goes through is steep. Yes those are cliff walls you see in front of you near the tunnel. Terrain Rating 4.

or

3. You can walk back to your car and drive East on US. Rt. 50 around the tunnel hill and turn Left (Opposite Hall Run about 1/2 a mile) and try to find the lost/forgotten road to the graveyard on top of the hill. If you don't find the lost/forgotten road and have to walk in from that side, the terrain rating is a 3 (long up hill walk). If you get lucky and find the lost/forgotten road, your terrain rating will be a 1.5 since you can drive to within 150 feet of the final cache.

Remember I said it was haunted? Well according to stories from the Internet it appears that Railroad Line workers were doing repairs in the tunnel and did not realize a train was coming, especially not as fast as it was. It seems that everyone working in the tunnel made it to one of the few escape alcoves built into the sides of the tunnel (just big enough for one man to hide in and let a train pass) except one. Oh! he tried but the train caught him, causing it to derail. The railroad through this tunnel was shut down because people could hear train whistles and see the lights of a ghost train coming towards them. This tunnel has a lot of hidden history. Today, it is part of the Rail-Trail, but the train whistle can still be heard along with other various sounds: screaming, metal scraping on metal, sobbing. So if you go the tunnel route and you hear a train whistle ran as fast as you can for one of those side alcoves or you may end up part of that history.

One last thing, while your in the tunnel DON'T LOOK UP! There is a cemetery up there directly over the tunnel. But don't worry those DRIPS you are hearing and feeling are water aren't they?

FTF-Cachepoorcouple Congrats!
