Geocache Description:

The "Window Tree" cache was archived and we wanted to replace it so there would be a cache at this location. This is a very small container in a very public place, please replace just as you found it so it doesn't get muggled! Don't forget to bring your own writing instrument!

The Window Tree was a Pacific Union College landmark for many years. It's "famous" in this area because the limbs of the tree grew around to form "windows". There are many pictures of this tree on postcards and in yearbooks. The yearbook of PUC Prep (the parochial high school of Pacific Union College) is called "Window Tree". In the summer of 1996 the tree was removed for "preservation". It was dying, and hoping to keep it somehow, there were several ideas of how it might be preserved. Unfortunately none of them were suitable for one reason or another. So the Window Tree is no more and but a memory to those who have known it well. This cache is placed in remembrance of days gone by when the tree was alive and well.

This picture was taken sometime around the 1920's as near as we can figure out from other pictures taken during that time period.
