Located in Mt. Nebo State Park, this cache is placed just off the Nebo Steps Trail. This trail connects the Rim Trail, near the Visitor’s Center, to the Bench Trail far below. The trail gets its name – appropriately – from the 375 or so rock steps that must be climbed or descended to go from one trail to the other over the steep terrain. The cache is placed off the trail near the middle of this rocky staircase, so it doesn’t really matter which end you start from – you will get a good workout one way or the other! Because of the steep terrain, the approach to this cache can be treacherous unless you remain on the trail until the last possible moment. I recommend that you wait until your GPS unit tells you that you are no longer getting closer to the cache before considering leaving the trail. But you may also want to leave the trail when your GPS unit says that you are at the same level as the cache, to avoid any undue climbing.
USE THE TRAIL to get in the vicinity of the cache. DO NOT BUSHWHACK from the Rim Trail or the Bench Trail! The terrain in this area is VERY STEEP AND DANGEROUS. And do not search after dark!
The cache is a 50-cal ammo box, with a log book and some trade items. Please leave something if you take something. And no junk, trash, business cards, religious tracts, or political leaflets, please!
The only reward I get for placing this cache is your log entry on this website. So please take time to tell me about your adventures in finding this cache or visiting Mt. Nebo. The more you write, the more I like!
Hidden with permission of Mt. Nebo State Park.
