Geocache Description:

Dave’s Cedarwood Farms

This super easy cache is placed in honor of Dave’s Cedarwood Farms.

Every small town has, or had, one of these small family run convenience stores and Baldwinsville was no exception.

The owner, who was also the butcher, ran it. If you wanted a good piece of meat for a special occasion, Dave’s was the place to go. A bit more expensive than found in super markets, but well worth the cost.

This was also before the more common acceptance of credit cards, so many customers paid with a check, and some people bounced their checks.

Dave had a very good method for getting people to come in and cover the bounced checks. He had a large piece of poster board behind the cash register, and would staple the bounced check to it along with a large note such as “Thanks Sally Jones for bouncing this check”. Needless to say, people covered their checks very quickly.

Dave retired and sold the business, but let the new owners keep the name. The new owners promptly drove the business into the ground, and the business closed.

Dave re-bought the property, and in a few months it was back where it was when he sold it.

Health concerns caused him to sell the business again, the new owner converted it into a under funded hardware store where it languished for a couple of years.

It is now closed.

This is no longer near the woods. It should be very easy to find.

It is probably best NOT to cache during the 2:30 to 3:30 PM time frame, as it is on the route that many Baker High School students might take to get home.

The container is a pill bottle, so there is room only for very small items, and you should bring your own scribble stick.
