Geocache Description:

A small cache hidden next to Rip Van Winkle Lake in Tannersville. A short flat walk (~1/4 mile) to the cache.

Rip's Lake Cache is a small container hidden next to Rip Van Winkle Lake in Tannersville. In the 1930s, this lake was surrounded by a gazebo, boathouse, bath house, a casino, skee-ball, and shooting gallery. The trail is the old Catskill and Tannersville (Huckleberry) Railway. This railway was a narrow 3 foot guage railway that ran only on the mountaintop from the Otis Summit near the former Mountain House to Tannersville. From the parking coordinates, cross the wooden bridge, and follow the Huckleberry Trail along the lake to the cache.
