SKFR#6       The history of Fire Station #6: Originally known as Kitsap County Fire Protection District #6, was established in 1946.  The fire district was run by the local Community Club(aka: S.I.A. Sunnyslope Improverment Association).
In 1950, the Fire District Commisioner E.E. Edwards, W.L. Hughs and H.C. Sunderlin purchased the first lot of four at the island triangle of Sunnyslope Road, Rhododendron Drive and Southgate Drive.
In June of 1955, the Commisioners called for bids to build a fire station, and proceeded to have their first fire station constructed.
In 1969, the Commisioners purchased a second lot next to the station, and in 1970 they purchased the third lot.
In 1994, the KCFD #6 was annexed into KCFD #7, to include both KCFD #8 and KCFD #19.  In 1998, KCFD #7 annexed the City of Port Orchard.  Today, all of those departments are known as the South Kitsap Fire and Rescue(SKFR).
