Geocache Description:

This cache is a tribute to common sense.

Several years ago the bridge down the road (see English River Stage Crossing CGXHXA) was closed for safety reasons. At the location of this cache, another bridge crossed a small stream. However, it was old and could not support much weight. In fact, it could not support the local fire trucks should there be a fire in the area. At least three families lived beyond the bridge and with one bridge closed and another unable to support a fire truck, it looked like a disaster in the making.

The county was required to replace the bridge to provide services to the families living beyond it, but didn't want to spend tons of money. The resourceful county engineer ended up purchasing two used rail car flat beds. He removed the wheels, welded them together, and presto, an affordable bridge. They claim it was approximately 1/3rd the cost of putting a traditional bridge here, but can hold multiple times the weight. Let's hear it for resourcefulness and watching the taxpayers money.
