Geocache Description:

This is our first time placing a cache. Coords were a little spotty, about 40 feet accuracy. The camoed cache container was purchased in the gift shop. This is a fun place to visit and explore (check out the pool!). We hope you enjoy!

A little over 2 years ago, Jtsquid and I (Krisytan) headed to the Brookdale Lodge for breakfast. We’d heard that their dining room was built over Clear Creek and that it actually ran through the dining area. We walked into the lobby and it seemed almost deserted. We peaked into the dining area and were actually spooked by the place even though it was beautiful. We ended up leaving before being seated and ate at home instead.

While reading ghost stories last week we came across one called “Little Girl Lost”. It just so happens that in the 1920’s and 30’s the Brookdale Lodge was a popular tourist area for San Franciscans. Many celebrities would visit and vacation here, including Marilyn Monroe. In the 1920’s, an 8 year old girl by the name of Sarah hit her head and drowned in the creek. The lodge was famous for the Brook Room which featured the creek running through it. There have been many accounts of people seeing a little girl with short blond hair running near the creek in the dining room “playing her own little game”.

There are other features of the lodge that have an eerie history. “The lodge had an indoor kidney-shaped swimming pool. A drowning in 1972 forced its closure. Below the pool was the “Mermaid Room,” a bar that featured a large window for underwater viewing of the swimmers.” One account says that while underwater a boy saw a little girl on the other side of the viewing window. The only problem was, the room had been blocked off years before.

Have fun finding the little girl lost. And remember, don’t fall in.
