Enjoy the Galena River Trail.
The Galena River Trail begins in beautiful Galena and follows the Galena River to Galena Junction, the intersection of the active Burlington/SantaFe railroad, the Mississippi River and the Galena River. This cache was placed to encourage you to experience the trail by foot. The parking lot and trailhead are located below the Highway US 20 bridge in Galena. Cross the tracks at the Train Depot and drive south to the end of the parking lot. Please observe parking regulations and trail rules listed at the trailhead. The trail is hardpacked crushed rock on a former railroad right of way.
The posted coordinates take you to an interpretive area not far from the trailhead. At the interpretive site you will find a sign that will enable you to answer the following questions with the appropriate numbers:
How many gallons per minute? = AB
How many gallons per year? = CD
To obtain the coordinates for the final cache, substitute your numeric answers for the associated letters in the following coordinates:
N 42.24.ADD W 090.25.8BA
An easy hike on the trail will give you access to the area of the final cache. The cache used to be an ammo can with the normal variety of loot. It ended up in the river several times. The new container is smaller and is in a more accessible hiding spot. Please be very respectful of the natural environment in the area of the cache. And, as always, watch out for muggles! Enjoy!
