Cefn Coed Museum

This Cache Is Placed Near A Mining Museum, This was once a working mine located near the village of Crynant, Cefn Coed Pit was one of the deepest anthracite coal mines in the world, which had coal with a high carbon content which burnt efficiently. This mine was one of the most dangerous coalmines in wales which it was nicknamed "The Slaughterhouse" Opened in 1930 it took 4 years to reach the coal as there was a thick layer of blue pennant sandstone and this mine was almost half a mile down (687 Metres) but another 3 years before fully operational. five seams were worked at various times and the deepest called the peacock seam because the coal had a greeny blue sheen like peacocks feathers, this mine finally closed down in 1968 where many of the miners went to other pits and the museum opened in 1986,
