The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular
geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT),
a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and
positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest
region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing
interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the
area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten
participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking
rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail
Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum
of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport
validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at
participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport
with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Click on
the Allegheny GeoTrail Logo below to visit the AGT website at
www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a listing of
participating locations where you may pick up and validate AGT
passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable at
www.geocaching.com .
Please start out at the posted
coordinates for the parking area/trailhead (N41 17.437 W079 56.237)
From the parking area please walk around the gate and follow the
Gamelands Access Road. Please stick to that road until you get
another trail heading off to the left at N41 17.762 W079 55.854.
Follow that trail until it ends and then it is just a small
bushwack to the cache.
This is an ammo box hidden in a
semi-traditional fashion. Please give your GPS receiver time to
settle due to heavy tree cover and you should find the coordinates
to be quite accurate. Terrain is at most a 1.5 until the last .2 to
.25 miles where you must leave the trails. After that there are
some slopes with plants covering downed trees and rocks. You may
also encounter mud, swampy areas, and at least one creek crossing.
The total length of the hike for this cache should be about three
miles (round trip) provided you park at the designated parking
spot, on Slatertown Road at N41 17.437 W79 56.237, and follow the
Gamelands Access Roads. No tricks, puzzles, devious hides, or
anything else of that nature have been employed in this placement.
Just a cache to show you around this great area. Please replace and
recamo the cache container to ensure the long life of this
hide.
A few other notes to would be
seekers:
1. Please keep in mind that this cache is located in PA State
Gamelands #039. Use caution, wear blaze orange during hunting
season, and be sure to follow Pennsylvania Game Commission
Rules and Regulations.
2. There are some thorns, nettle, and other nasty nature.
3. Don't forget to stamp your AGT Passport.
Best of luck and good
caching.
