Saksumdal kirke church - is located in the western part of Lillehammer municipality.
The Hovland farm donated the ground and the locals gave timber and supplied workers. The construction started 1874. Master Stomemason Pedersen and Master carpenter Kristian Svendsrud was hired to organise the construction, the workes needed were locals that worked for free. From the beginning there was chimney, so the first years there was no heating.
The altar piece was made by the above mentionedr Svendsrud and given to church by the owner of the Hovland farm (that also had donated the ground).
The inaugaration took place on Aug. 26th 1875.
The first organ came ni 1895, electricity in 1928. In 1951 a total renovation was done and the leas-glas windows were fitted. Later a cellar, a new organ, flood lights and a new service building came into place.
The cache container is a plastic cylinder with screwtop (3 centimeters in diameter and 10 cm long), covered with white (yes white, not black - not gray) duct tape.. The container holds only a combined stash note/ log, a pencil and some very small items for trading.
You do not have to enter the church yard to find this cache. The Saksumdalen valley connects directly to the western valley in Gausdal. On your way up the Svatsum/Espedalen you will pass the follwing caches: Rural-Urban #2 - Forset , Aulstad church and Svatsum Church.
