Quick drive to cache over looking the towns of Dundee and Glencoe.
Growing up in the nearby town of Glencoe we often went to Dundee but never did I get to go up the mountain overlooking this little town. Now with the Geocache bug really settling in I just have to find all them places that I wish I had been to as a kid. This was one of them. The cache takes you to the top of Mpati Mountain that overlooks the towns of Dundee and Glencoe. In the distance you see the Donald McHardy dam where as a kid I used to spend weekends riding my motorbike around. I never knew that the view from here was so great. It feels almost as if you could be flying over the towns.
The cache is pretty easy to get to with a normal car. When you leave Dundee on the way to Newcastle you pass the Road Traffic department, adhere to the speeds down this bit as they trap all to often along this stretch. The road starts with a long straight climb and around two thirds of the way up you will see a sign for the water works to the right. Turn in here and follow the dirt road for a bit. This turns into a narrow tar road at the waterworks. Follow this road all the way to the top of the mountain. It ends near the radio masts at the top. Please close the gate on the way up. Park near the cross. Now look for the cache. If you stand on the rock where the cache is hidden take a look to the right towards Glencoe, down along the bottom of the cliff you will see rocks in a circular pattern next to a tree. I wonder who made that, it really stood out when I saw it. Odd. Please can you check on the co-ords when you find the cache as it was very overcast and starting to rain when I placed the cache.
