Geocache Description:

Visit a little known New York City neighborhood, learn a little NYC history, and maybe find a small lock-and-lock geocache container.

The listed coordinates will bring you to the original site of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion church, just off of 85th street. At these coordinates you will have to look very carefully to find part of the original foundation of the church building, only a few stones remain, forming the corner of what was once the foundation. Across 85th street from this site, was the rather large church graveyard. The current landscape at this location was part of an early New York City urban renewal project that overtook both the church and the graveyard. Go to the listed coordinates. Standing next to the remaining bit of the church foundation, use your GPS receiver to project a course 388 feet, using a bearing of 119 degrees true (cross town on 85th street). This should bring you to the corner of Seventh Avenue and 85th Street. Stand between the trees. Use your GPS receiver to project a waypoint 880 feet at a bearing of 207 degrees true. This should bring you a few blocks down Seventh Avenue. The cache is at the projected waypoint, hidden along Seventh Avenue. The cache is not visible to passerby, but makes use of a traditional geocache hiding spot. Please be careful removing and replacing the cache. Please replace it exactly as found, without damaging this fragile mechanism.
