Geocache Description:

The Cow Tippers decided to place a cache on this rainy Saturday afternoon for people to enjoy. An easy walk and find for everyone. ENJOY! (A little homemade FTF prize too for those who aren't allergic :)!)

We used to have a cache close by with COG2nd Series #11: Chicago of the North(GCVZZW) . When development of this area started last year, we were hopeful to be able to find a spot to put it back where the story of this once great town could be told. Unfortunately it is becoming more difficult to actually see where the great ships and trains would come into town regularly to drop passengers and pick up goods.

This new community trail is laid out along the path that used to have train tracks running to the Port McNicoll waterfront. If you park at N44 44.481 W 079 48.428 you will eventually end up looking over Hog’s Bay and to another fantastic multi-cache starter point with Hog Bay Views (GCKBFW).

The Hog’s Bay Trestle once stood here and was truly an engineering wonder. It was 2000 feet in length and the longest wooden trestle of its kind in Canada. It was in service until 1971. Many people wanted to keep the trestle, even though it would no longer be in use. It was a distinct landmark and identified this community as one built on marine and rail heritage.

It’s nice to see this trail come into town and be taken care of by the Township and volunteers. There are still unfortunate reminders of what this area has been used for by residents and non-residents since the rail lines were pulled out. CITO’ed a bit today ourselves!

The cache is a small Lock’n’Lock with a clue below if you think you need it!
