A quick cache close to the picturesque village of Appleton Thorn. Contained in the cache itself is something specific to mention in your log, hence the 'Literacy Homework', and the Puzzle Cache category.
Here are some interesting facts about the location of the cache...
The wood is managed by The Woodland Trust, in order to prevent the area being built upon by developers.
Locals call the wood 'The Little Dingle'. The big Dingle is nearby, dingle being a derivation of the Saxon word for woodland or forest.
There are 18 different species of tree living in the nearby wood, all of which were catalogued by local volunteer Bowie Lycett.
The lane nearby was considered, but rejected, as a possible location for one of the scenes in the film Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix, where Harry sees the Thestrals for the first time.
Appleton Thorn is the site of an ancient Saxon fort, although nothing is left of it. Can you spot the Saxon derivation in some of the road names?
Local resident Ian Boot can often be seen collecting litter in the area, as he has fond memories of playing there as a child, and does not want the site ruined for others.
The farms nearby were allegedly an inspiration for Farmyard Tales books for children.
