Dot Plotter: Thanks to all who attended. Time for this one to go since it is well over 30 days since the event was held. Please retrieve any remaining geocoins/travel bugs still hanging out at the event.

Thanks,

Geocache Description:

Flash Mob event at the AMC Hampton 24 Theatres from noon to 12:15.

Summary. The Basic Idea:

A Flash Mob gathering of geocachers, only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen.)

The World Wide Flash Mob Event

This is a coordinated world wide geocaching event occurring simultaneously (which happens to be noon Eastern Time) in 83 locations in 9 countries. (See bookmark list for the complete list and some interesting statistics.) Come be part of this historic event!

Here's a very cool Google Earth KML file created by AV Dezign that shows all the events: KML file

This event is designed to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby in a unique way.

You've heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a number of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons (Wikipedia - Flash mob).

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at noon Eastern Time. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. Please read the minute-by-minute schedule linked here, which may continue to be refined until about one week prior to the event. We will also distribute printed copies of this ultra-precise schedule at the event.

The Plan

At exactly noon (as determined by the GPS clock) we will place a bucket of swag at ground zero. We will place a small music player on the ground near the bucket to play some pleasant, upbeat music.

One volunteer will hand out "log sheets," which will also be used as raffle entries. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book) to qualify for attendance and drop them in the designated collection box. Bring a pen! Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.

In case any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer handing out fliers that explain geocaching.

At a designated time, we will toss out Hershey Kisses to all in attendance for the event "meal".
At a designated time, we will take a group photo.
At a designated time, we will call out the raffle winners.

One of the raffle prizes will be FTF honors.

At precisely 12:15 the bucket and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that happen after 12:15:01 do not count as part of this event.

Although participants are welcome to get together for lunch (or a movie!) after the event, the event will officially end at 12:15. At lunch, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching.

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

Doubtless there will be muggles nearby who will wonder, "What did I just see? What just happened?"

Suggestion: Come early to find parking. Visit a nearby business or mingle with existing crowds until the event starts.

For those without access to atomic clocks, please set your watches a day or two in advance, as accurately as possible.

Tell your friends and help promote the event!

Team Roberson and Nochipra would like to thank the other volunteers: VaBeachBoy (Hubert, Leslie, Andrew) and VaBeachGirl (Kate), 2 Unusual Suspects (Chico and Brenda), t13eagle291 (Doug), skool bus wrangler (Tim), and Marahute (David). Great job!
