Del Massey Park Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

we"re lost: Well we hate to do this but i think we are gonna move this cache completely out of this park. There are too many kids at the park that tear things up and spray paint the pavillion and pull trees up that the city just planted and tear basketball goals up.
So i am sure that a kid saw someone looking for the cache and went and found it and took it. It is sad that kids have no respect for things anymore. They have nothing better to do then tear things up and take things.
The city told me that they have a real problem with that park with kids hanging around bored and spray painting stuff.

with a long talk to the city about this we decided to do another cache at another park in the city.

we"re lost

Here is a brief history on this park.

Del Massey Park

The land on which this park is situated was willed to the City of Marshfield by Del Massey. "It being my desired they they use the same for the benefit of the children of the community either as a park or for any eduacational purposes as they shall deem the tract best suited for."

Del was born in Marshfield in the year 1901, he died November 6, 1959. His mother Rosetta Mosby predeased him by a few months. Del at the time of his death was the last surviving black in the county.

The black community in Marshfield numbered over 100, in the early part of the 20th century. His funeral was one of the largest in Marshfield history. The children and town folk loved him and respected him, and he loved them especially the children.

Del, worked for many people in the community he doctored and trained their pups and broke thier horses, and spun fascinating yarns for the young.

He had no formal education, and could neither read or write, except for his name.
His knowledge of persons and animals however far surpassed the more educated.

He had a friendly community with what he called
"The old Man up there"
