A little bit of bushwhacking required but the cache is not very
far from the road. Small container with a few traders, log book and
pencil. Have fun and watch out for the ghost.
THE LEGEND OF NIXON'S HALLOW
The year was 1845, a crew of men were hired to build the road
between Taymouth and Stanley, (the English Settlement road). Nixon
was a government pay man who came out from Fredericton every
saturday to pay the workers. The men soon noticed that he always
had a sackful of coins left over after they were all paid.
One October night two of the road workers after having imbibed
heavily of local home brew, waylaid Nixon at the hallow. They tied
him up and gagged him, took his sack of cash and then in their
drunken state viciously attacked and beheaded him. Panic-stricken
by their horrendous crime, they hurried and buried the body in the
woods, but in a drunken daze neglected to take the head.
Many a tale has been told about the eerie sight of a headless
figure strolling about the hollow searching for his head, or having
a black shrouded figure approach their wagon or vehicle in an
attempt to have them stop, perhaps seeking help in his search.
Horses have been spooked and hard to manage in the hollow... even
during the day. What is it do you suppose they sense there? Those
who have seen the ghost have fled in terror.
But remember if you happen to be passing through this terrain on
a clear moonlit night and the apparition approaches stretching out
his hand, bidding you to stop,.... as your body trembles, and your
knees shake, remember...... he is only searching for his head.
