Geocache Description:

Danby State Forest. You are looking for the Inukshuk stone human at the coordinates given. Its arm points north toward the cache. Walk north 75 feet from the inukshuk to find the cache in a hollowed-out tree trunk.

From the town of Danby, park at N 42 18.9593 W 76 29.6871. Walk (or 4-wheel drive) south on Bald hill road past the 1800’s cemetery to the trail head on the right at N 42 18.6915 W 76 29.6060. Follow the taped trail basically in a southern direction on an abandoned ATV track to the inukshuk at N 42 17.9139 W 76 29.7998. I call this hike Oak Ridge Trail because of the abundance of Red, White and Chestnut oaks. The cache is 75’ north of the inukshuk in a hollowed-out tree stump. The cache is in a ammo box. There is a spiral notebook and initially there is a watch, a calculator and a canadian loonie
Return: You can take a short-cut back to Bald Hill road by going due east down a steep hill to the road. If you want to extend your hike, instead of returning to your car via Bald Hill road, you can then cross the road and bush-whack east another 1/2 mile and you will come to the Abbott’s loop part of the Finger Lakes trail. You can take this orange blazed trail north along the creek back to your car. Another return route is to continue south from the Inukshuk about ¼ mile on the old ATV trail to a steep downhill ravine that drops down to Bald Hill road to an abandoned well and home foundations.
