Geocache Description:

The cache is located close to the crossroads at the Summit on the Success Loop Scenic Drive from Ely either through McGill over the top to Cave Lake or from Ely to Cave Lake and over the top to McGill.

We once again found ourselves up in the mountains to the East of Ely with three deer tags and a cow elk tag. My Steptoe Creek cache had been reported missing so I brought a replacement ammo can for it plus one more to hide somewhere up here. We arrived at our campsite on October 2 to clear skies and dry ground. We pitched our tents, set up our kitchen and bathroom areas and were ready for two weeks in the hills. By Friday afternoon, October 5, the clouds had gathered and the snow was falling. When we woke Saturday morning it was to 14 inches of fresh snow and still coming down. We litterally abandoned camp, taking just personal items and headed for Ely. Almost two hours later we finally had all the vehicles and one pop up tent trailer on the main road above camp. What an adventure that was. By Sunday the sun was shining and the snow was melting so up to the mountains we went again. On the way we replaced the Steptoe Creek cache and hid this one. See the pictures I took the day we hid it and then just about 30 hours later. You'd never believe it was the same place. When the sun came out and the snow melted it just disappeared. We did get our three deer and but didn't see any elk so missed out on filling that tag. We hope to draw out again next year so we can come back up.
