This is a three-stage cache located in Tomlinson Run State Park. The park is open year round from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Although the word trek may be a little strong for the title of this cache, because of numerous elevation changes the hike may seem longer that its actual length of slightly over two miles. Begin by parking at the lot near the miniature golf course. Although unmarked, the trailhead is across the road just to the left of the gated road that leads up the hill. Blazed red, this is the Big Foot Trail, which follows the shore around the lake. In August 1940 the Works Progress Administration started construction of a dam at the confluence of the north and south forks of Tomlinson Run to help control a silt problem downstream and to create a 29-acre recreational lake. Completed in October 1942, the lake was heavily used by local residents for swimming until 1953, when the swimming pool was built.
The first stage of this cache is a 3 ounce round Lock & Lock plastic container which will give you the coordinates for the second stage, another 3 ounce round Lock & Lock container. In this container will be the coordinates for the final, a .30 caliber ammo box. You will be hiking most of the Big Foot Trail, the entire Half-King Trail (blazed orange), and a portion of the Poe Trail (blazed white), looping back near the parking area where you started. Stay on the designated trails as long as possible: the first two stages are within 50 feet of the trail.
