Geocache Description:

This cache is located approx 100m above the wreck of the "kirkdale". I have seen the rusted boilers jutting up from the sand only 3 times, surfing the beach over 20 years.

If you get the opportunity to find this cache after a cyclone or king tides you may get to see the old boilers of this ship.

Love a Mystery?

The 'kirkdale' arrived at Launsten may 1862 & later sailed for Colombo via Torres strait. However when near Cooktown, captain Williams turned backed because of unreliable charts. On July 19th the 'Kirkdale' was stranded on yaroomba beach and gutted by fire......reasons unknown? The Captain and 4 crew escaped unhurt to Cowan-cowan whilst the rest of the crew went overland to Brisbane. No enquiry was ever held.........( what the...?)

Location of the wreck of the Kirkdale.Close to the rocks on the beach in distance.
