Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash that serves as an eastern gateway to the Ellis Hollow series.

This cache gets its name from one of our favorite songs by local band The Horse Flies. We were fans of the group and the song before moving to this area, but now we have experienced first-hand what they are singing about… "I live where it's greyyyyy ... I will never get skin cancer ... I'm going to burn my swimsuit."

Yes, Ithaca is grey but contrary to popular belief, Ithaca is not the 10th cloudiest city in the country...it comes in at number 18 (Binghamton is number 9). Ithaca also gets an average of 67.3 inches of snow a year (much less than Syracuse and Binghamton, which appear on USA Today's list of "Snowiest U.S. cities" at 4 and 15 respectively) and 35.3 inches of rain.

Have you ever wondered where all of this precipitation goes? We were surprised to stop here one day and learn that parts of the county are in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Yes, part of the rain falling here flows south to the Susquehanna River and on to Chesapeake Bay and part goes north to Cayuga Lake and on to the St. Lawrence Valley. The watershed divide runs along Ridgeway Road and White Church Road nearby in Brooktondale.

Take a moment to learn more from the sign here when you stop for this quick cache and dash that serves as an eastern gateway to the Ellis Hollow series.

This cache is a seed cache from TheKens' hide CACHE DELIVERY. The container was a perfect solution here as we had trouble placing a larger container we had prepared. In honor of Ithaca's greyness the cache has a packet of Earl Grey tea and a Where'sGeorge$ for the FTF.
