Geocache Description:

Historic Ballston Spa

I have been by this area quite a few times and was being begged by it to have me hide a cache container in its vicinity. I think I even pointed and said this to the Highland Ranger on one of our trips “up North”. It was always a matter of where and how to do it. Well, having some extra time before the dentist did the trick. I can’t just make this as easy as just giving you the coordinates, though, as I would like to give somebody a chance to locate it other than Richard E (*snicker*)!!

The IP will bring you close. There is on-street parking so find a spot and enjoy a quick visit to Historic Ballston Spa!

When you arrive at the IP, look around for the two tallest memorials. If you sit in the park and look towards Rte. 50, you will not miss them.

To find the final coordinates you will need to take some waypoints and make some projections.

Instructions:

  1. Go to the taller of the two memorials. Find the year of the monument. Reverse the order of the four digits. With this new number, throw away the new first digit. To the remaining three digits, add “110”. This is ‘G’
  2. Go to the smaller, newer memorial and take a gander at all sides.
  • First, count all the stars that are on the bottom of the memorial. This is ‘A’.
  • Second, count up how many veterans are listed from all of the wars. This is ‘B’.
  • Third, count how many arrows the eagle is holding. This is ‘C’.
  • Fourth, count how many stars are above the World War II side of the monument. This is ‘D’.
  • F=A+B+C-D

The final is located at: N43°00.F W073°50.G

Put the two halves of the coordinates together to find the final resting place of this small container. Small trades can be left here. Sorry, but no FTF prize besides bragging rights!!
