Geocache Description:

Cross Eyed Cache

This is a puzzle cache. You will need a print-out of this page to figure out the coordinates to the final. This one could take awhile so if you have any plans for the day you better cancel them before you start.

This cache starts in Putnam Cemetery located off of Providence St.(171). The parking coordinates are:
N 41° 55.640 W 071° 55.015

From your parking coordinates you will be on a hunt for puzzle clues that will give you the numbers to full in for the coordinates to the final.

Ok, time to get cross eyed!

1. Your first destination is to find Reverend Henry E. Quinn. Take his death date and subtract 1907 from it and this will give you the first 2 numbers of the North coordinates. N XX ° - -.- - - W - - - ° - -.- - -

2. Now off to see David D. Beausoleil. The reading on this stone is:
“Decede le 4 Avril 1901 Age De ______ Ans” The number that fills in the blank is the second set of numbers in the North coordinates.
N - - ° XX.- - - W - - - ° - -.- - -

3. Ok now it’s off to visit the vaulted epitaph directly in front of a large cross. This horizontal stone belongs to Reverand Leon Jegou and reads as follows:
“Reverand Leon Jegou Venu Aux Etats – Unis En ________” Take the number from the stone that fills the blank and subtract 1165. The result will get you the last three digits to the north coordinates.
N - - ° - -.XXX W - - -° - -.- - -

4. Your halfway there! Take a break and relax...just don’t get too comfortable our you’ll end up six feet under. Ok once you’re ready it’s time to find the resting place of John Murdock. On his stone it reads:
“Died Apr 23, 1930 Ae ________ years” Take the number in the blank and subtract it by 2 to get you first set of numbers for the West coordinates.
N - - ° - -.- - - W 0XX° - -.- - -

5. Now the search begins for Philip Riley. His stone reads:
“Native of Co. Cavan Ireland Died Sept 5, 1878 Ae 63 yrs. Requiescat In Pace. Alice His Wife Died April 16, 1896 Ae ________” Now subtract 22 from the number in the blank you just found and you now have the next 2 numbers of the West coordinates.
N - - ° - -.- - - W - - - ° XX.- - -

Now off to find the last digits so you can get to the final!

6. Find the stone bearing the name Bove. On it, it will read “Rosanna Rita Wife of Charles Bove“ Take her birth year and subtract from it 1796. You now have the last three numbers to finish the coordinates to the final.
N - - ° - -.- - - W - - - ° - -.0XX

Now off to the final. Enjoy the lovely hike and scenery on your way. It is in a place that is unknown to a lot of people. There is a $1 Ct scratch ticket for the first to find, as well as a $1 ticket for the 2nd.

Please take care of the environment and re-hiding the caches where you found them to keep it interesting for others. Happy hiking and enjoy!!
