Geocache Description:

This cache is based on an old song by Mike Oldfield: "Five Miles Out".
That song is in turn based on true events he went through.
You can watch the video of the song here: Five Miles Out
Brings back memories ?

OK, now on to the cache:
You'll find it well hidden here: N45 AB.CDEF W75 GH.IJK

Now for the fun part:

AB : middle numbers of the frequency on which he spoke with the air traffic controller once on the ground at his destination (yes, he did make it through!)

CDEF : the transponder code he should have used

GH : as you can see on the album's cover, he was almost over the highest clouds at his cruising altitude. Find the time, in seconds, it took him to reach the top of the clouds to definitely get out of trouble. Starting at his cruising altitude of 12000 feet, he took a climb rate of 1500 feet/minute. The clouds' tops were 1707 feet above the highest peak of the range of mountains he was overflying (bonus points if you can tell which type of clouds they were!).

I : he says he's in IMC. In controlled airspace, with reference to the ceiling only, how many thousands of feet do you need, to be officially over IFR weather minimas?

JK : the last two digits of the year that the plane on the album's cover first flew.

After this incident, Mike Oldfield decided to switch from flying planes to flying helicopters. Wise man!

Have fun!!
