(You might want to add this event to your "watchlist" for
late-breaking announcements.)
We are hosting this caching event to bring together geocachers
and to introduce new people to the hobby. This event,
however, will be quite unique, and creative.
A Flash Mob is a large group
of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something
unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse.
This is a part of the World Wide Flash Mob occurring
simultaneously around the globe organized by iTrax
and Foxtail. See http://tinyurl.com/yugzoo for more information on the
WWFM. Check out a list of all of the other scheduled WWFM events that
will occur simultaneously around the world.
...AND...
Check out http://tinyurl.com/26nrmp to see a video of
the last Flash Mob in May.
You've heard of geocaching mega-events? This is quite the
opposite in a variety of ways. It is sort of like a micro event,
but with many of these events occuring world wide all at the same
time. Flash Mobs have also gathered for other reasons, besides
Geocaching (http://tinyurl.com/7qpml). Come be part of this
historic event! Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign
the log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Please BYOP!
(Bring your own pen)
The "2" difficulty is for the fact that the limited time will
make it tough to log if you aren't prompt and diligent... You MUST
be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the
event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets
may log the event. To ensure that your signature was added during
this timed even, there is a simple surprise question on the log
sheet that you must answer. If you don’t answer it and get it
turned in, we will delete your log. Also, First To Find
bragging rights will be awarded in a drawing from the names of the
volunteers running the event.
Do not show up prior to 11:00 AM! Stay parked or nearby, but for
the Flash Mob to have its full effect, we must appear to come from
nowhere and disappear just as quickly. The event must begin
precisely at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, November 10th, synchronized
with "GPS Time". A Bucket full of Nice Swag will be placed on
ground zero and a whistle will be blown to signal the start of the
event!
- Trade swag from the bucket if you want.
- Turn in log sheets.
- Pose for group photo.
- Receive event "meal" (Hershey Kisses).
- CITO the area.
At precisely 11:15 AM, disperse! A whistle will be blown to
signal the end of the event! The event will officially be over.
Quickly leave the area without a trace. This is how a Flash Mob
works.
If any muggles are curious about the event we will have
volunteers handing out fliers that explain geocaching. ( example fliers )
We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event.
Tell your friends and help promote the event. Bring them along,
they do not have to be geocachers to enjoy the Flash Mob.
Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. If you can't find
parking you might miss the event! Swing by the coordinates and
scout the area a few days early, so you know where you will be
going on the big day.
Possible Choices for Parking Coordinates:
- N37°41.000' W97°20.350'
- N37°41.101' W97°20.275'
- N37°41.119' W97°20.345'
- N37°41.062' W97°20.295'
- N37°41.033' W97°20.341'
I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder
"What did I just see? What just happened?" That's part of the
fun!!!
Just by attending, you will be entered into a drawing to win a
prize from iTrax and Foxtail.
**drum roll** Our most awesome team of WGS volunteers for this
event are (in no particular order): Team Heather-Kat, Gypsy1970, cantuland, Badd Companie, SparksGuy, jennielynn, and familyfunict.
