This is a small cache hidden in the city of De Smet SD. It is in a well traveled area, beware of mugglers. There has been some recent landscaping changes and the cache has been moved slightly.
"Welcome to De Smet, est 1880" The first permanent habitation of De Smet was the winter of 1879-1880 when the Charles 'Pa' Ingals family overwintered in a railroad surveyors shanty on the shore of Silver Lake, (the slough just southeast of town). Mr Ingals filed his homestead claim in the spring of 1880, other settlers moved in and the city of De Smet, Dakota Territory was established. Many years later his daughter Laura wrote a series of childrens books about the Ingals family pioneer life. Try to visit the several interesting historical attractions in De Smet, including the original surveyors shanty, the Ingals' residence and the museum, among others. This cache is located in a spot with nearby trees and a metal structure that makes for degraded GPS reception, but this is a very easy cache, you hardly need a GPS... Keep the title of the cache in mind as you look and you will get close.... very close.
