About a 45 minute round trip from parking, partly on old road and partly on a muddy grassy track, last hundred yards very rough. Boots are a must for most of the year, some areas very muddy. ***Be aware the deer fence gate is padlocked in the OPEN postion.***
7 Jan 2012....Visited cache site today, the deer fence although padlocked is open, please do not climb over the fence. A good starting point for this cache is OS Ref. 59063 75788
There is room for a few cars along this track, park well to the side as the track is still in use.
Follow the track East until it stops at OS Ref. 59817 75754, turn sharp left, cross style and follow the path till you come to a forestry gate, cross the stile and turn right, go throught the gate in the new deer fence, head East along old wall until you see a short distance away a WW2 relic, it is the Newlands control bunker which was part of operation Starfish, this was a huge decoy site to entice German bombers away from Clydebank, see this link if you want to know more. The cache is located outside the bunker on East facing side. The area around the bunker is very wet, watch out for drainage ditches beside it also. Suitable footwear is a must. Total walking time is about 45 minutes.
Added 29 Nov 09 For a shorter and drier approach using forestry road most of the way park at N 55 57.789 W 004 14.020 Head West and pick up a left turn track, runs North South and is about 100 metres West of the GZ, it stops within a few feet of the deer fence gate and can be accessed from Lennoxtown. Do not attempt a direct North approach as you will reach a massive swamp near GZ.
