WWFM – For Whom the Bells Toll Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tealby: Well - now that all attend logs are now in & verified (despite the wrong dates on a couple!), and all the trackables collected, it is time to bid a fond farewell to this event. Stay tuned for another WWFM in 2008...

Geocache Description:

A Flash Mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse.

DATE: Saturday, November 10, 2007
TIME: 6 PM to 6:15 PM (only 15 minutes!)
WHERE: National Carillon, Aspen Island, Lake Burley Griffin

(I have used the coordinates for the existing cache located on Aspen Island – there are picnic tables to the left or right as you cross the bridge. The meeting point will be at either of these spots and should be immediately obvious – look for me carrying a bucket. I cannot guarantee which spot will be free – it all depends on the muggle traffic and wedding parties on the day.)

This Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers will be only 15 minutes long. You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim this event. After 15 minutes…we're gone!

This event will be one small part of the WWFM (world-wide flash mob event). This event will begin precisely at 6PM on Saturday, November 10th – when the bells start tolling.

AGENDA:

5:45 - 5:59 PM
Participants wait patiently in your vehicles. If you cannot find a park next to the bridge, you may leave your car and wait inconspicuously somewhere on the foreshore.
DO NOT cross the bridge. STAY AWAY from ground zero until you hear the bells begin to chime.
As much as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or give any indication that something is about to happen.

6 PM
The carillon bells will begin to chime. This is the signal for the Flash Mob Event to begin. Everyone now makes their way quickly to GZ. I will be there carrying a bucket, so I should be pretty obvious for anyone who has not met me (don’t confuse me with any of the local fishermen!).
As you arrive, you’ll be handed a log sheet. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become the log book). To qualify for attendance, drop them in the designated bucket.

Mingle. Trade travel bugs and coins (*read the fine print). Share stories. Brag. Take pictures. Make arrangements to meet elsewhere, or to find the various caches in the nearby area. But be quick – there is not much time!

6:10 PM
The event “banquet” will be served! (Don’t get excited, it’s just mini chocolates.)

6:12 PM
Prize draw - to be drawn from the logs in the bucket (see my note regarding the prizes).

6:13 PM
Assemble for a group photo, and assemble FAST.

6:15 PM EXACTLY
As soon as you hear the carillon bells begin to chime the quarter hour it is time to IMMEDIATELY LEAVE the area. The event area will be evacuated without a trace. The log sheet bucket will be packed up. If you didn't get to it in time you can't log the event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log this event. You are welcome to meet up again elsewhere if desired.

If everything goes right we will have lots of people coming out of nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, holding a geocaching event and then disappearing…This could be lots of fun and maybe even raise a few muggle eyebrows!
Stay parked or nearby, but for the Flash Mob to have its full effect, it must appear to come from nowhere and disappear just as quickly.

THE FINE PRINT:

1. If this event was held simultaneously with the rest of the world we would be meeting at 4am on Sunday morning! Therefore some cacher discretion has been applied to ensure maximum impact for the event.

2. Geocoins and travel bugs – if you would like to use this event to trade trackable items, please email me beforehand with the tracking number of the item. I will then compile a register to ensure all items are properly accounted for, and to assist with discovery logs.

I will also be bringing a couple of BIG travel bugs that are also GCA caches:
GA0244 – Australian Geocacher Omnibus TB
GA0245 – Australian Geocacher Signature Item Trove TB
If you wish to find and/or discover these items I suggest you prepare your log in advance (given the time constraints).
