Geocache Description:

This cache was actually pickd out, put together and placed by the Master Cacher. Outdoor Freaks get a little credit because I had to drive him there and will check on the posts.

You are standing next to a Springfield stopping point for many natives of Springfield and those just passing through. The Home of the Home Made. This bakery was started in 1937 by John Schuler and is now in the third generation of ownership. There have been rumors swirling for the last several years as to whether this icon of pastries and donuts would close it's doors or not. Lovers of the donuts were pleased to hear that the bakery had passed to the next generation and would continue doling out the sweets that many have come to love. The local newspaper ran a story not too long ago and asked readers to write in with their stories of Schuler's and mention their favorite donut, pastry or cookie. Many from out of state who grew up here said they longed for the donuts that they had enjoyed when they were young. Some have them shipped to them overnight and all of them said they swing by everytime they are in town. If you are one of the few in the area that have never had a Schuler's donut, make sure you stop in and reward yourself after finding the cache. We recommend the Chocolate Bismark. You can thank the Master Cacher if it is your first one. You will be back. It is a well earned treat.

I spoke to a manager at Schuler's to make them aware of the hide. The lot is not their property and the private property signs apply to their parking lot only. She had no problem with the hide and I informed her that she or some customers may see some people looking in the area with a handheld. She said that she would make the others aware of it. I also spoke to the realtor listing the lot and made her aware of the hide and she gave permission for me to leave the cache there until the property, if ever, is sold. Please make this a daytime hide though as the area has had some illegal activity after dark. Also, please park on the street unless patronizing the business. That is why the private property signs are up...customers only in the lot.
