Tomba etrusca conosciuta come "Tomba dell'Arciere".
Sono presenti cartelli posizionati dal Comune di San Casciano che, a partire dalla strada principale ed attraverso una piacevole passeggiata tra le vigne, conducono fino agli scavi che sono recintati ed ottimamente mantenuti.
La tomba etrusca dell'Arciere - VII secolo a.c. circa - fu scoperta nei dintorni di Montefiridolfi (FI) nel 1978: è costituita da una sola camera quadrata che misura m. 5,30 di lato, preceduta da un breve dromos orientato verso ovest.
Il dromos, il pavimento e le pareti della tomba furono costruiti con pietra alberese, gli stipiti, il pilastro centrale, gli architravi, tutta la copertura e la stele sono in pietra arenaria.
La copertura, unica nel suo genere nella zona volterrana e fiorentina, era una pseudo-cupola sorretta da un grande pilastro centrale alto circa 4 metri.
Già in tempi antichissimi la tomba etrusca era stata depredata e violata: sono stati ritrovati soltanto frammenti di ceramica, avorio, bronzo ed una piccola fibula d'oro. La tipologia degli oggetti ritrovati ha fatto datare questa tomba etrusca a circa metà del VII secolo a.c. L'oro e l'avorio denotano come questa famiglia etrusca proprietaria del luogo fosse ricca e potente.
La tomba è visitabile, gratuitamente, tutti i giorni dalle 9 fino ad un ora prima del tramonto: l'unica limitazione consiste nel mantenersi nel sentiero segnato, senza addentrarsi o sostare nelle proprietà private circostanti.
Il sentiero di accesso è complessivamente agevole e ben segnalato, il luogo ben tenuto ed il panorama e la suggestione del luogo valgono indubbiamente una visita
(magari scattate e poi pubblicate qualche bella foto insieme al vostro log!).
COME SI RAGGIUNGE:
la tomba dell'Arciere si trova nei pressi della frazione di Montefiridolfi.
Da San Casciano, percorrendo la via Grevigiana in direzione Mercatale, seguire la segnaletica stradale per Montefiridolfi e, da qui, quelle specifiche "Tomba Etrusca"
Dalla Via Cassia o dall' uscita Bargino della Superstrada Firenze Siena seguire le indicazioni "Montefiridolfi" e "Bibbione".

There are a lot of indications (TOMBA ETRUSCA) positioned by Comune of San Casciano which, starting from the principal road and through the vineyards, lead up to the excavations which are surrounded and very well kept.
The Etruscan tomb of the Archer, VII century b.c., was discovered near Montefiridolfi (Florence) in 1978: it is constituted by an only square room which measures m. 5,30 of side, preceded by a short dromos oriented to west.
The dromos, the floor and the walls are constituted by “alberese” stone, the jambs, the central pillar, the architraves and the stele are in sandstone stone.
Cover: only one in his kind in the area of Volterra and Florence, was a pseudo-cupola supported by a big central high pillar about 4 meters high.
Already in very ancient times the Etruscan tomb had been plundered and violated: were fond only some fragments of ceramics, ivory, bronze and a little fibula made of gold.
The tomb is visitable, free of charge, every day since 9 to the sunset: the only limitation consists in keeping in the marked path, without penetrate or stop in the surrounding private properties.
The path is altogether easy and well signed, the place is well kept and the views and the suggestion of this place are undoubtedly memorable.
HOW TO REACH: the tomb is near the Montefiridolfi fraction, from San Casciano, take via Grevigiana in Mercatale direction, follow the road to Montefiridolfi and, from here, those specifications "Tomba Etrusca"; from the Via Cassia or the exit Bargino follow the indications "Montefiridolfi" and "Bibbione".
