Geocache Description:

This cache was planned to commemorate today's cage dive with white sharks out at the Farallon Islands... it's original name was SCUBA-Dooba-Doo!

Well, there's no counting on nature, and there's always a chance of cancellation due to weather. Nevertheless, it's still a disappointment when it happens - and that was definitely the case this morning.

I didn't get the call, nor notice the text message on my phone as I was driving down to Emeryville, preparing for a 0600 departure from the Sport Fishing Pier (perhaps Team Alamo is familiar with this location?). I arrived 15 minutes early (had planned on 30, with time to hide this cache before our departure - but you know how that goes ), looked around, and saw several groups of people. "This MUST be the right place", I thought to myself.

I parked, grabbed a load of gear, and hopped out. I had only walked around for a minute or two before I ran into the co-worker who had organized the tip - who promptly informed me, the trip was canceled.

Seems there are 14' swells today, spaced 10-12 seconds apart, with another 3' reverse wave (?). The operator described it like this:

"The boat can definitely do it, and the crew won't have any trouble - but passengers will be hanging on the entire time, and most will be getting sick. When we drop the cage in, floating on the surface - it's bobbing up and down 14', with the divers rattling around inside."

That didn't sound like fun - coupled with the fact that they hadn't seen much action the last few days, such that I ended up leaving thinking of the 'silver lining' of this bad news:

At least I didn't spend all day bobbing on the ocean waiting for sharks that never showed.

Change of plans, but there's one plan I'm following through with: deploying this cache, squeezed in between all the others out here on the point. The location is governed by spacing from other caches, and I just needed a minor adjustment to the name.

Have a seat and grab the cache. Since these types of hides can be a bit frustrating, the hint is a total spoiler: I've had my share of frustration this morning, and don't want to be the cause of any for all of you.

Please be sure to close the cache carefully, and replace it as found. The tide shouldn't come up this high, but - we want to make sure that nobody spots it, as well as prevent it from floating away.

Enjoy!

Congrats to Moe74 for the FTF!
